Thank you Dr Bhupider for your comment on UGC regulation 2010.
It (API system) is  really a joke that one will get more points for presenting a paper in seminars than a research publication in a good journal. Also lot of pints will be awarded to the teachers who will be a part of NSS/hostel etc than running a research project.
The new API system will discourage the collaborative research as there will be a race for becoming the first author of a research paper based on collaborative work because first will get more points than the rest. This will in turn reduce the good quality research as collaboration is a prerequisite for a good research output based on multidisciplinary outlook. Therefore, rethinking on API system is  highly expected.

Thank you for sharing the link.

It appears that UGC is setting some strict norms for appointment and promotion. Wish this may help in improving the standard (at least increase the research related activity in universities). But there is always some lecuna or some problem with new systems. Like in this, for API for articles published in journals is low... (author will get ~ 1-5 points for three author paper published in an average impact factor journal (2-5).. while the author can 10 points for presenting the same work in conference (and multiple of 10, if presented the same work in many conferences). Everyone understands the difficulty of first and easiness of second one.

Education / Academic Performance Indicator (A P I)
« Last post by Bhupender Singh on September 01, 2010, 08:06:29 PM »
I came to know about this new regulation by UGC for the recruitment and promotion of teachers in academic institutions while looking for a form for academic position.

It is Academic Performance Indicator (API) score that indicate the performance of an faculty / researcher in academics and research.

For direct recruitment of a Associate Professor, the API of applicant should be 300 and for direct recruitment of a Professor, the API should be 400.

While going through the form (link from Punjab University site is as http://jobs.puchd.ac.in/APIFreshRecruitment.pdf)..... I found few points that appeared to be very unclear for calculation of API. Also it is different one than one published on pune university (published in gazzette of India).  Link is as: http://www.unipune.ac.in/admin/circular/UGC%20Regulations-23.09.09.pdf

Can anyone share the correct file for calculation of API.

Academic Performance Indicators (API): Based on the teachers self assessment API Scores are proposed for teaching related activities, domain knowledge, participation in examination work and contribution to innovative teaching. The minimum API score from this category is 75. In second category co-curricular, extension and professional development related activities come for this minimum API score equal to 15 is required. The third category is research and academic contributions in this an assistant professor stage 1  has to  score 10/year, asst prof stage 2 has to score 20/year, asst prof stage 3 has to score 30/year, Associate professor has to score 40/per year and  a Professor has to score 50/year to go to the next level.

thank you for update ..
I recently came to know about A P I .. it may be a good initiative by UGC and may be useful in improving the research arena in academic institutions. I think .. the format of A P I should be discussed with elaboration and rectification of some points.

I think Dr Sharma wants to know the Impact Factor for the Journals in Management and he is concerned with the U G C's New regulations for the promotions of teachers in career advancement scheme in which a person has to score a certain A P I to get promotion. Besides other things the publication in journals shall also be counted for this score and for these marks are assigned according to the Impact Factor of the Journal.

Education / What is the definition of proper education?
« Last post by jemoran on August 28, 2010, 02:17:47 PM »
The tragedy is that no one could define the term proper education and at least what we provide in India, it is not proper education because most of the schools have no library, no laboratory, no play ground, no stadium, no community hall, no canteen no dispensary, no workshop and no proper seating arrangement.
