National Institute of Science Technology and Development (NISTAD), New Delhi gets its origin roots back to August 1973 when the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) set up at its headquarters a Centre for the Study of Science, Technology and Development. It was on 30 September 1980 when it was given autonomous status with its own infrastructure marking 30 September 1980 as birthday of the Institute. Following that centre was renamed to NISTAD on 1 April 1981.
