National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) is the national center for Earth Sciences research in India. The National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) was established under CSIR in 1961 at Hyderabad with the mission to be the premier geoscientific research organisation. NGRI focuses on both basic and applied aspects of earth sciences.
Research
The major research and development programs of the institute relate to the following fields:
- Exploration of hydrocarbon and coal.
- Mineral exploration and engineering geophysics.
- Exploration, assessment and management of groundwater resources.
- Earthquake hazard assessment.
- Structure of earth's interior and history of its evolution in space and time.
- Development of geophysical instruments.
