G.D. Birla Award

G.D. Birla award for Scientific research is conferred by K.K. Birla Foundation. K.K. Birla foundation was established in 1991 by Krishna Kumar Birla. This society was founded to promote literature and arts, as well as educational and social work. Beside G.D. Birla award, this society confers many other awards like Sarawati Samman, Vyas Samman, Bihari Puraskar and more for literary work in Indian languages. G.D. Birla award is given each year to the scientists who has contributed in scientific research. This award is to promote the scientific research in frontier area. The award carry a cash prize of Rs. 1.5 lakh. This award was constituted in memoirs of Ghanshyam Das Birla (G.D. Birla)[1], a great Industrialist i.e doyen of Indian Industry who has laid the foundation of Birla Empire. Followings Scientists have been awarded G.D. Birla Award (please update):
- 2007 Prof. Santanu Bhattacharya Organic Chemistry Department, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore for his contributions in Gene therapy research.
- 1999 Sankar Kumar Pal Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.
- 1992 Prof. Goverdhan Mehta Organic Chemistry Department, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
